I don’t know, the idea of a sea of pajama-wearing Republicans cheering for McCain will have to be worth a laugh on TV.
Wow, that video was quite hilarious, and actually quite accurate. I was amazed to check my progress the other night and found myself 12% complete and I’m still “learning” through missions? What the hell? Seems like they tried to incorporate too much and in the end made some of the game feel more like a chore/job than just plain fun. I don’t feel I can screw around unless I want to not save, else I’ll piss off someone and I’ve only got two people I have to keep happy so far.
Oh and the camera still ticks me off. Though I agree with the points made about driving, I’m getting used to it, but it is a bit too troublesome.

Bugger- does that mean I have to get the Lord High Arch Pope robes out again. I was using them as Curtains in my ‘70s theme room.
WEBS- BRING FORWARD THE CENSER OF CENSURE, and twat this guy with it.
You know it makes sense.

Although, that would imply design…
Still, they should be able to overcome the time barrier and manipuate some code and use some uv or some particle blaster or something to get some life going there… Right???
Einstein climbs to the top of Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to God.
Looking up, he asks the Lord… “God, what does a 60 billion years mean to you?”
The Lord replies, “ not even a minute”
“Einstein asks, “And what does a billion dollars mean to you?”
The Lord replies, “1 cent”
Einstein asks, “Can I have a penny?”
The Lord replies, “In a Second.”

its hard for the Christians to lay claim to Einstein;

That he found all religions to be not more then childish superstition just shows the depth of his understanding of the universe. He understood there is no god but the ones we create in our image to explain that which we do not understand.
Posted on 05/14/2008 at 01:38 PMSigh. Sorry, Les, this guy is uneducated, but not repellent, so I’ll tackle a few points.
Gestalt says:
For example, if I said that Darwin later rejected his theory and believed that all was designed… This would be blasphemy to this cult…
1. “Blasphemy” is not the word you are looking for. Try “undocumented and unlikely on the face of it”. Darwin did have many doubts about particulars of his theory, but they were scientific doubts, not religious doubts.
2. While Darwin is respected and even revered by many, he is not worshipped (as far as I know), and what he said is subject to the same sort of scrutiny and criticism as any scientific work. It is not “blasphemy” to disagree with him- and Darwin would be the first one to welcome the corrections and augmentations made to his theory in the last hundred and fifty years. Does God welcome disagreement with His Word? Lots of stuff in the Bible is plain wrong. That’s the difference between science and religion: in science, something is accepted as being a provisional truth because it fits with the real world, not because of who said it. In religion, something is accepted as being an absolute truth, even if it doesn’t fit with the real world, because of who supposedly said it.
Your closed minded religious filter would deny the idea of intelligent design automaticly as you are so deep in your faith…
No filter necessary: intelligent design has no evidence for it, so there’s no reason to take it seriously.
DO YOU BELIVE THAT DARWIN SPEAKS TO YOU THROUGH ANIMALS AND COMMUNICATES HIS WILL OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT???
No.
I would’ve deleted Gestalt’s second posting for being in an inappropriate thread, but BB’s reply was funny enough I’ll leave it up for context.

Oh Great and terrible SEB, we give praise and worship to you, who are called Les Jenkins among mortal men! Praise be to Science, that glorious logical construct of reason and sense! All Hail the mighty Darwin for his observations of the real world are conclusive and insurmountable, but not unsupported and unfounded! Glory be to the Dawkins and the Hitchens and the Dennett and the other guy!

I stumbled on this site while researching Chuck...It seems that you all are some religion or cult with yur faith in science, I think… It looks like you give each other emotionioal or faith support here…
I notice you try saying some sort of curse word to give yourself credence or identify yourself as part of the cult… Instead of some word of praise like other religions…
Hell, anyone looks like they could join. Oh, is that one of the accepted words? It denotes there is a God… I think part of your faith is that there is no God… Which is what your fellowship (brotherhood) revolves around…
It also appears that you stay happy and gay by constantly tauting someone named Darwin as your leader or prophet…
I have found that religious people are closed minded and they filter everything they hear regarding other religions through thier beief system…
For example, if I said that Darwin later rejected his theory and believed that all was designed… This would be blasphemy to this cult… Just like if I told a Budist that Budah was against worshiping at Budah statues…

For example, if I said to one of your cult members… science has already affirmed inteligent design thru the genetic code (a system to transmit a message)… Immediately it is thought,"BLASPHMEY, thank God Darwin is part of the eco system and cannot hear your foul speech"…

Well, I hoped you have enjoyed my analysis… I hope I have not offended anyone and if I have I hope your religion is not one like the ones that murders people who disagree or speak against thier prophet…
Oh,well I gues I have to take that risk…

Posted on 05/14/2008 at 02:59 AMActually, Positive, Mosaic Law would have pre-dated Jesus and would have been the kind of law that advocated stonings for certain offences. Or you could say Noahide Law, but that’s really just seven of the ten commandments. (Those are the commandments Jews consider every human being to be responsible for.)
I think what you’re going for is the concept of a New Covenant that Jesus was said to have made with the world in God’s name.
But you might notice that the Bible has no writings directly attributable to Jesus. You might also notice that Jesus supposedly said some not-so-savory things to today’s sensibilities as well - and that people these days ignore the parts they don’t agree with. Seems like cherry-picking to me.
Posted on 05/14/2008 at 02:56 AMAnd leguru- while there’s some evidence that religiosity is partly inborn, it seems obvious that most of the factors leading to this girl’s tragic death are cultural, not genetic. It’s the meme pool that needs cleansing, not the gene pool.
Oh, and Michael- here’s one of my favorite curses, a Persian one from the Shahnameh:
“Assuredly as thou hast thirsted for blood, Destiny shall also thirst for thine, and the very hairs upon thy body shall become daggers to destroy thee.”
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 11:03 PMPerhaps, but the situation isn’t improved when the assholes live on to procreate further.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 10:59 PMIsn’t that what our government refers to as “collateral damage,” you know, when innocent civilians are creamed? I agree it’s tragic for the girl, but Darwin and the “Military-Industrial Complex” are not known for their compassion.
Mencia isn’t the first comedian to steal jokes and he certainly won’t be the last. Word has it that Robin Williams is or was a notorious joke thief, an accusation that still dogs him today:
While most comics take pride in performing their own material, many have built lucrative careers on borrowed bits. Williams, for example, has long been lauded for his ability to instantaneously improvise scenes and gags. But while few question his gifts as a live performer, there’s no way to know how much of his sharp-minded inspiration over the years has been provided by an unwitting writing staff. “I’ve been in clubs in L.A. where Robin’ll walk in the room and whoever’s on stage will just get off,” says Boston comedian Kevin Knox. Ritch Shydner, a former Improv regular and coauthor of the book I Killed: True Stories of the Road From America’s Top Comics, agrees. “Robin is a ferocious performer,” he says, “but he isn’t the kind who can generate material, material, material. His style is to watch people and regurgitate what he sees.”
Steven Pearl, a veteran comic who, like Williams, worked on the San Francisco circuit in the ‘80s, claims the star was renowned for stealing jokes—a comedic Winona Ryder. When he was caught, says Pearl, Williams sheepishly copped to the charge by opening up his wallet. “I’d call him and say, ‘Hey, what happened there?’” recalls Pearl. “And he’d say, ‘Oh, sorry.’ Then there’d be compensation.” Though Pearl is now reluctant to discuss details, he told Canada’s National Post that Williams wrote him a check for $1,000, and noted that “there were a few more checks for substantial amounts of money that kept my rent paid for a while.” Even Robert Klein, an old pal of Williams, commented in a 2001 interview that “things would float into [Robin’s] head that he heard onstage—sometimes with unhappy results.”
Yet I still find Williams hilarious as hell to watch. If we’re going to rule out any comedian who steals jokes as “not funny” then there’s not going to be too many comedians left to laugh at.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 10:40 PMTailrider, I wrote about the family you mention awhile back. We’ve got a long list of similar morons in the archives.
Leguru, I’d say you’re missing the point that the girl was an innocent whose only crime was teenage infatuation. The assholes who killed her aren’t dead, she is.
actually, Carlos really is stupid. he copies jokes, his humor is really lame, especially in the way he delivers it, and really, its child humor. Dave chappelle is WAY funnier than this guy. at least dave chapelle is actually into it. Carlos presents it in the stupidest way possible, and no im not illiterate. although even an idiot could tell his humor is lame.
“And if you disagree than you’re just not open-minded to what the world has to offer”
thats a hyppocritical statement. i found 1/20 jokes he said funny, and all of those were said by some other comedian.
enough said, Mencia is an idiot
constructively speaking though, i really dont think he’s funny because he’s been proven to steal others jokes. there more but im too lazy to type
Frustrating controls?
They are the exact same controls as always…
Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I play with a wavebird.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 08:33 PMThanks for that Les - I laughed all the way through. Zero Punctuation rules.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 08:31 PMYou say these silly practices that are cleaning up the gene pool are “just disgusting.” The whack-jobs are doing their own “ethnic cleansing” and saving us the effort and money that would have to be spent in a war or something. The only down side I see is that we can’t make a few more billionaires, like we do when we have a war. Am I missing something here?
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 08:22 PMGeekMom Said: I have this fantasy of building a female strike force, going around killing all men who perform honor killings and other acts of violence against women.
The aspect about this that I find particularly abhorrent is that this isn’t an honor killing. The father specifically said this was a retaliatory killing for having been shamed by his daughter’s actions. In this light, we see that his motivation was ultimately a selfish expression of his own greed, and thus, dishonorable by Muslim tradition. To regain his family’s honor, he should obviously have stamped on, suffocated, and stabbed himself to death rather than heaped murder on his list of sins. Surely, this father’s entrails shall be stepped upon by ten million unclean monkey feet and his ghost will eternally wander around a lonely strip mine somewhere in rural Mississippi.
Yes, I’m practicing my peaceful Islamic curses.
Well, here’s the rub, for me. It’s a fanboy game, filled with fanboy references. If you can get into the gameplay (ie. if you enjoyed any of the other games) and you can get around the frustrating controls to find something that works for you, great.
Nintendo did, as much as they tried to do otherwise, aggravate this problem greatly. Same holds for Mario Kart. But I’ve liked both series’, and this is something I’m willing to forgive in exchange for a gamecube controller.
Just recently a couple in Wisconsin refused, based on their religious beliefs, to allow medical treatment for their eleven year old daughter. She died. The whole rest of her life just vanished, poof, because of her parents insane, idiotic, evil, and disgusting belief that a fictional character is actually real.
This is christianity in Wisconsin (no heat issues) in 2008. Take out the brutality and the stories are the same. Same result, same cause. Religion is just disgusting.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 12:38 PMAfter reading about something like this I find it less likely that staying in Iraq will have any good. How do you change the minds of barbaric people? Which is what this all amounts too. You can’t force culture and government change on people, the people have to want it. It’s all really frustrating and just pisses me off.
I’m off to lunch to read a little more about how the Religious Right is destroying our freedoms. Maybe that will piss me off a little less than this story.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 08:58 AMPositive- in addition to what Les said, who are you to say that “Christians” do not follow Mosaic law? Quite a few people who call themselves Christians still consider the Ten Commandments binding. As you probably know, Jesus said “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” What this means is of course hotly debated.
And there’s the rub, or one of them anyway: what exactly is permissible, and what not, to a Christian, or a Muslim, is not clearcut from Scripture; otherwise, we wouldn’t have all these thousands of sects, fighting (and often killing) over the interpretation of a phrase or a word, would we?
The other rub, of course, is that religions are not the word of God, because there is no God. And while there may be no passage in the Koran that specifically condones honor killings, both the Koran and the Bible are full of nasty stuff (and a lot of good stuff as well), which has inspired and continues to inspire lots of nasty (and nice) behavior.
Luckily, most of us- Christians, Muslims, atheists, and all, have moved on in the last several centuries, despite Scripture. Thank God for cherry picking, and thank Darwin for free thinking.
Posted on 05/13/2008 at 08:50 AMI call it a perfect storm. All over the Middle East, you have deeply misogynistic cultures that appear stuck in a barbaric age where women are rated lower than chattel. Islam as an invention born from this culture reflects this misogyny and helps to perpetuate it.
The “liberation” of the Iraqis wasn’t worth a single foreign life and a single Dollar. Worse, it has killed off (perhaps literally) any moderates and strengthened the local nutjob fuckwads. I’m willing to modify my position on the invasion, though. Perhaps U.S. troops aren’t killing the most deserving Iraqis.
As far as I’m concerned, the father, brothers, and local cops are worse than rabid pigs.
Christianity has its own share of this bullshit, but at least Western cultures had their enlightenment and women fought for and won significant rights they should have had all along.
