Bio

Adopted when I was five by two California teachers who taught me to read, and didn’t let me have access to a television until I was about fifteen years old.

Figured out that I was an atheist when I was twelve.

Got an MA in English at CSU Sacramento.

Only form of transportation, for six years, was motorcycles.  I’ve ridden in rain, bounced off the asphalt more times than I can count, and have sweated through more pairs of jeans, in the summer, than I count.  Took me four days to ride from Sacramento to Seattle, on a 1986 Suzuki GS450, in the rain.  I did it to get laid.  It was worth it.

I was a pretty heavy drinker, for a while, although I’ve pretty much given that up.  It was fun while it lasted, of course, but I don’t think my old bones can handle it anymore.

I’ve worked as a dishwasher, burger flipper, warehouse stocker.  I’ve fielded calls for the Communications office of the California Dept of Corrections, and I’ve been a wholesale mortgage loan processor.  I’ve been a PhD student in Medieval Lit, I’ve taught College English, and I’m now working on getting a teaching credential, so that I can corrupt -your- children.

I lived with my wife for five years before we got married in 2002.

I think I’m smarter and more interesting now than I used to be, but I also think my life is much less interesting.  I spend an awful lot of time jumping through academic hoops, sitting through classes that bore the hell out of me, and not getting paid a dime for any of it.  But I expect things will change once I actually have the teaching credential, and can start working.
