  I’ve seen McCain supportes say that they want to replace liberal Big Government.

  So that would be Bush then.

  Republicans have failed to learn from the last 16 years.  You stand close to your opponent.  Both Clinton and Blair moved to the right, and said “If you don’t vote for me, you let the other guy in- and he’s futher over than me”.  Instead McCain has to pretend Bush isn’t right wing enough.
