I’ve had little problem playing XviD files on my PS3 with the 2.10 update. In fact the other night I streamed an XviD copy of the Doctor Who Christmas special Voyage of the Damned just fine.

xvid doesn’t work with 2.10 update packed or unpacked bitstream… for gods sake sony … why bother ,,, if your not gonna support both major format what was the point.. give me an xbox /// microsoft have now sorted their support fully..

I have heard that there are examples (including yours) of playing Xvid using the 2.1 firmware. This includes both streaming from WMP11 or by copying to the PS3 hard drive. I have not had any luck with either and am forced to use Tversity to transcode. I can stream these same Xvid videos from WMP11 to my Xbox 360 just fine. Hopefully this issue gets fixed because if not I’ll be buying a 2nd Xbox rather than a PS3 for my next media center (too bad really because I’d rather have the PS3)
