I can’t elaborate on the story much too much but I’ll see what I know and can remember.
Noel  Pearson (appearing at the 5:00 & 7:00 minute marks), Aboriginal, Lawyer, and now respected elder up at (Cape York peninsular) has been trying to figure out how best to help ‘his people’.
The current situation is that Abos get welfare which is spent on grog (any alcoholic substance from Beer to Goonies – flagons of plonk) which as a race (apparently) they can’t handle as well as whites.
This then causes domestic violence, child abuse, and kids not going to school and house (if they have one) wreckage.

I have problems when I agree with PM Johnny but I make allowances that he agrees with Noel Pearson.
Noel is one of those charismatic blokes (I can’t think of too many – an ex-PM Paul Keating comes to mind – Noel doesn’t do vicious attacks though) I love listening to. His free flow words with no ums and ahs is a nice thing to hear.
Noel is at odds though with most other Aboriginal ‘leaders’ as they think what he’s proposing smacks of racism which it does I suppose but Noel doesn’t give a shit how it appears; all he cares about are the result he’s sure he’ll get.
When you consider Aboriginal Affairs had been something not far removed from Aboriginal Genocide, having had less than UN-success, I’m on Noel’s side.
No one has brought up a better idea.
His idea as I understand it is to dramatically reduce access to alcohol; and tie welfare payments to some sort of work scheme he has in mind attached to sending the kids to school with the welfare payment used as a carrot.
Basically, no payment if kids don’t attend school.
The way I see it is that if the kids are going to school the parents need to be sober enough to enforce it; if they’re sober enough to enforce it then other benefits will/may came.

Oh and the porn bit? Apparently Aboriginal children are re-enacting porn scenes after watching porn with drunk parents or … you can guess the alternatives.
Of course not all are like this – just enough to make it onto Noel’s radar.
The other thing I like about him is he doesn’t pull punches as much as politicians.

He’s well known to police and politicos for his stunts.  He had a couple of series on TV a few years back, sort of in the same vein as Michael Moore, only more rip the piss.  The one that sticks in my mind is when he was looking into the US use of listening posts in the UK, and the spying that is done on out phone calls. There is a site which intercepts everything (not just suspects)- and this is pre 9/11.

Looking at a map, trying to work out the stunt, a mate (a pilot) pointed out the yanks had forgotten to make it a no fly zone over it. So he hired a hot air balloon, and while floating gently over the base made a phone call to his mum, making sure he dropped key phrases into the conversation.  Funnily, here he is with loads of armed police following him waiting for him to come down, and who is he scared of? His mum (who must have mistook the whoosh of the burner for him drawing on a fag), because he started going ‘no mum, I’m not smoking’.

The protest one I ran a cable from the speaker output to the mic in, and recorded from the listen again facility the BBC do for 7 days after a broadcast.

Mark Thomas, Left wing London comic protested about lack of Trolls under Hungerford Bridge- the reasons for doing so will be found in this YouTube of his Radio show (the one mentioned in the 1st link) in Part one and part 2.  It is one of the funniest things I have ever heard. And its on the BBC- what some yanks sneer at as ‘State controlled broadcasting’. Proving our state control is more free than, say, the Freedom loving ‘Fox’ network.

Beer. Proper British beer (a.k.a. Ale) should be served at room temperature, like red wine.  However that rule is from before central heating, so strictly speaking it should be a couple of degrees lower. Sometimes you have to let the beer warm up, so the cold doesn’t mask the taste.

I was making fun of myself and American’s overall lack of knowledge of the world outside of the US.  Don’t worry I know that other countries besides Germany speak German. 

I was in Scotland a few years back and they serve their beer warm.  I was used to cold beer and like it cold very much.  But I was young and dead set on the idea that I would do as they do.  After awhile I kinda liked room temperature beer.  It was just the memory of that, and when I saw 90f, I kinda jumped to conclusions.

And yes we have all significantly drifted this thread… but really who cares?

The beer was cool but not cold- close to English serving temperature.
