Would the fact that the husband was cohabiting and fathering children with another woman have any impact, positive or negative, on the decisions he made on Terri’s behalf?

Denver is a shithole, the entire front range of Colorado has become such.  From Pueblo to Fort Collins now – its a 400 mile long freaking parking lot/interstate with cookie-cutter suburbia stretching the whole way.

Its like Kansas with a view, pretty dead flat and soul-less. You can SEE the mountains from the C.Springs/Denver (at least when the smog isn’t too bad in some areas) . . . but you are actually a long ways from them.

Anyways, nice to hear about the pot laws. But of course federal laws trump local ones. And in the state which has the horror show of Dobson’s Focus on the Family based in it . . . its still a wart on the face of humanity overall.

Too bad, the REAL Colorado (mountains, away from resort towns) – like the San Juan mountain areas – are among the nicest parts of Brand USA, but the the state is controlled by the cesspool on the front range.

Worse, the politicians who were so gung ho about keeping her alive (i.e. Rick Santorum, Bill Frist, etc.) normally would oppose spending that kind of money keeping every brain-dead individual alive. It was all about their “pro-life” images; predictably, it had nothing to do with Terri herself.

What sticks in my mind is that the more vocal the let-Terri-live crowd, the less informed and willfully ignorant they were about actual fact.

About a month ago I saw a person’s car with a bumper sticker that read “Terri was murdered!” While that person certainly is entitled to her opinion, I can’t help but be sadly amused by such self-righteousness. I mean, a whole hell of a lot of good it does Terri now, right?

Interrestingly, I just read that Denver voted to legalize pot possession.  Good for them!  Too bad it’s only a city ordinance…

Anyway, I didn’t get into this debate much as it was happening because basically the whole media hype pissed me off so much.

I would want to live if I were in her situation, & I would probably keep any family member alive who was in the same situation, but it’s a personal choice, not a moral one based on any religious belief.  I don’t think anyone who makes the opposite choice is immoral.

But I think Terri’s husband is a whole different story.  What bothered me most is that NO ONE seemed at all disturbed by his large malpractice settlement on her behalf (that, granted, he did use to pay for her care).  The circumstances of her original collapse are sketchy at best (the autopsy didn’t do much to answer my questions).

If her husband said she really didn’t want to live that way, & “that way” means not functioning or aware of her surroundings, what will it HARM her further to give her parents & sibling some comfort by letting them care for her while he goes on with his life?

I just think the judges allowed their opinion to be swayed by personal feelings that THEY don’t want to live like that & they (being educated judges) know best.  I’m afraid of the legal president it sets more than I care about Terri’s individual case.

(I’m considering bailing out of the teaching ship to pursue law school, so bear with me)  I was reading over the opinions in Griswold vs. Conneticut that was instrumental in paving the way for Roe vs. Wade.

Basically, preserving the seperation of powers is vital, & I think it actually played out well in Terri’s scenario, I just wish the wackos had laid off.  In Griswold, Conneticut’s state law was that contraception or education about it, in all forms, even for married couples, was illegal.  Now, that’s a DUMB ASS law.  But I agree with Stewart’s dissenting opinion

I think this is an uncommonly silly law. As a practical matter, the law is obviously unenforceable, except in the oblique context of the present case. As a philosophical matter, I believe the use of contraceptives in the relationship of marriage should be left to personal and private choice, based upon each individual’s moral, ethical, and religious beliefs. As a matter of social policy, I think professional counsel about methods of birth control should be available to all, so that each individual’s choice can be meaningfully made. But we are not asked in this case to say whether we think this law is unwise, or even asinine. We are asked to hold that it violates the United States Constitution. And that I cannot do.

Prohibition was a DUMB ASS law also, but it wasn’t struck down by the supreme court, it was removed by the legislature.  That was the same problem with the Texas sodomy law.  It shouldn’t have been struck down by the court, it should have been removed by the legislature.  If you’ll notice, when popular opinion forces the legislature’s hand, it tends to silence the wackos & doesn’t give them an individual target like a judge.  Right now popular opinon seems to be going against abortion…

I just don’t see freedom as cheap enough to be wasted on things like drinking, contraception, & sexual positions while many people in the world are murdered by dictators for the group they were born into.

At the risk of ranting about judicial activism, I really get uncomfortable with stuff like this.  The problem with euthenasia, is that it’s for the states to vote whether it’s legal, then the supreme court to decide if it violates the constitution.  There were several laws that made Terri’s particular method of death problematic since she was still functioning & hadn’t put in writing what she wanted.  Many people EVERY DAY sign DNRs & fulfill living wills to refuse medical treatment & you don’t see the pro life calvary going crazy.  My own great-grandmother simply stopped taking antibiotics to stop some illness, & she was a Pat Robertson, Jimmy Swagert donator.
