If they do put up warning signs for people like this woman, they should probably have a picture of a choo-choo rushing by with a really angry expression on his face.

Some years ago, I was visiting a boatbuilder near Mendocino, California, and he told me disgustedly that regulations now made it mandatory for him, on all his beautiful handmade rowboats, to mount large signs just below the gunwales amidships, port and starboard, with the legend:  Not A Step.  Probably some litigious landlubber had stepped on the edge of a boat, capsized it and fallen into the water, and sued.

Perhaps a better sign for the boats would be: Warning. Water is Extremely Wet.  Attempting to Breathe Underwater Can Result in Impaired Lung Function.
