In a move that is sure to fuel late-night talk show host’s monologues for weeks to come, the state of Alabama has allowed a 14-year-old boy to marry a 42-year-old woman. Interestingly enough this is entirely legal under Alabama law.
“It is unusual but it’s nobody’s business,” Daina said during a brief telephone interview. “It’s nobody’s business who I fell in love with.”
She said she feared that the information, once known, would jeopardize her job and possibly the custody arrangement of her children.
“We happen to be on the proper side of the law,” said I.V.‘s father. “It’s in the laws of five states. Why is it so wrong?”
It seems that at least two other states, Kansas and Texas, allow 14-year-olds to marry with just parental consent. The boy’s father feels his son is mature enough to make such a decision even at his young age and offers the following words of wisdom when asked if he thinks the marriage will last:
O’Rourke said he believes that Daina and I.V.‘s relationship will last.
If not, “Divorce is easy,” he said. “If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.”

Well i don’t think age is an issue when it comes to love. When it comes to matters of the heart superficial things shouldn’t matter. I’m 17 and I’m seeing a guy that’s 42. I don’t see anything wrong with it, it just happend. If you let things like age get between you and a person that you like, then your all going to lose really good things in life.

i want to tell my story here and i do not want to be attacked please. i was divorced over 2 years ago and didnt have anything better to do then to play on the internet. i met some really interesting ppl that i enjoyed talking to daily. one happened to be a 24 year old man and i was 27. he is from canada and i am from the states. no big deal right? we both became addicted to talking to each other. soon i fell for him and he fell for me. we have spent alot of time together. we watched movies together and played games and things like that (all from distance never together). he has offered support for me when i needed it and i did the same for him. i LOVED him alot. we began talking about how badly we wanted to be together. i have met several other ppl that met their spouses online and decided that this isnt THAT crazy of an idea. we sent each other gifts and letters in the mail. ect ect it was an emotional bond. after 2 years of talking to him and falling in love with this man he decided to tell me the truth. that he is really a teenager. 16, about to turn 17. so i met him when he was 14. he had used fake pictures.
i had connected with him on so many levels and i know that i can never be with him now. it hurts so freakin bad. i am thinking of going to see a therapist because i am heartbroken. ppl can question my maturity all they want that is fine. i do not like to act my age which is 30 now. teens these days are not anything like teens even a decade ago. also depending on where you live.. they grow up pretty fast. not saying that they are emotionally ready for being an adult, but still.. idk what im really tryin to say. i guess im tryin to explain why it never dawned on me that he was a teenager. men do not mature very quickly on average.. i have 4 brothers and so nothing he did as a ‘24, 25, or 26 year old’ ever made me question his real age.

Depends on the teens. I know some that you’d be hard pressed to guess weren’t in their 30’s. I also know some you’d be able to tell were teens from three miles away. That’s always been true, though.
You don’t even really know him so how can you claim you still love him? You fell in love with a fiction, a fantasy, and it’s probably natural to still have feelings for that fantasy, but it’s not real. If he lied to you about something as important as his real age then how can you be sure he hasn’t lied about anything else? Are you even sure he’s a ‘he?’
